The Congress
of the Confederate States was the legislative body for the states that made up
the Confederacy. It was made up
similarly to the United States Congress with two houses. The Senate which consisted of two senators
from each state, who were picked by the Legislature of the state they came
from, and in the House of Representatives one who was elected by voters in their individual
states. The first elections for the
Confederate Congress were held November 6th 1861.
They held four sessions in Richmond, Virginia, their last session was adjourned March 18th 1865. One of the final acts by the Confederate Congress was the passage of a law emancipation slaves who were willing to join the military and fight for the Confederacy.
